No To Cyber Crime Law

RA 10175 (also known as Cyber Crime Prevention Act of 2012 )

courtesy of banggigay.wordpress.comCyberCrime Law aims to cleanse the Filipino online community of potential “online” threats. What makes it so controversial is the injunction of severe punishments for offensive or libellous contents over our local cyber space. A negative comment on your FaceBook post may put you in jail if the affected party decides to file a case against you.
CyberCrime Law may have good intentions but certain contents of this bill have brought a lot of fear for most of Pinoy internet users. The inclusion of libel as part of this new law inhibits the nation’s freedom of expression. Many of us will be affected if this new law takes effect. Less status updates, infrequent blog entries, inaccuracy on shared information. That would consequentially mean.  "not fun in the Philippines."
This new law needs more time to be reviewed and for our lawmakers, rushing to have this bill implemented is not a good move for the government. I hope the bill will only be used for the benefit of the greater good and not to satisfy the greed of some political icons.
